At Condé Nast, the slow-motion end of remote work is arriving with an ultimatum.

Over the past week, employees at several of its title—including Bon Appétit, Epicurious, Self, and Allure—were called into hastily arranged meetings with managers and told they would need to begin working out of the company’s New York City headquarters or exit altogether, according to people familiar with the matter. For some, the demand meant relocating to New York, despite having been hired with remote status during the pandemic. For others whom the company argued were never formally granted permanent remote status, the ultimatum was more acute…
