Last Thursday, on September 11, Karen Attiah was walking out of a martial arts class when she noticed a missed call from a Washington, D.C., number. Before she could figure out who had tried to reach her, an email landed in her inbox. It was from Wayne Connell, The Washington Post’s head of human resources, and inside was a message that would abruptly put an end to her more than decade-long career at the newspaper: she was being fired.
