In just a few weeks time, Status will celebrate its second anniversary. In that time, because of your support, what started as a one-person operation has grown into something much larger. We’ve built out a newsroom, expanded to publishing seven days a week, launched Power Lines, grown our YouTube channel to more than 100,000 subscribers, and, most importantly, built a community of readers who care deeply about the future of media.
There has been one medium, however, that we haven't yet tackled: live-journalism. Yes, we’ve hosted a few gatherings over the last couple of years, bringing readers together in New York and Washington to celebrate the First Amendment. But we haven't hosted newsmakers on a stage in front of a live audience.
That is, until now.
On Thursday morning, we announced the inaugural Status Summit—a one-day event that will bring together the industry's most influential executives, journalists, creators, and decision-makers for a series of candid, newsmaking conversations about the forces transforming the information landscape. Nothing will be off limits. We will discuss business pressures, political intimidation, technological disruption, and everything in between.
Confirmed speakers already include:
Meredith Kopit Levien, president and chief executive of The New York Times
Rebecca Kutler, president of MS NOW
David Remnick, editor of The New Yorker
Wendy McMahon, media advisor and former CBS News and Stations chief
We'll be announcing many more participants in the days ahead. Trust us, this isn’t going to be a lineup you’ll want to miss.
The summit, presented by beehiiv, will take place in Manhattan at the Times Center—a beautiful venue with a modern auditorium that we think will be a stellar host to our full day of programming. The conference will feature morning and afternoon sessions, followed by a closing cocktail reception, presented by Bilt. Attendees will also be treated to breakfast and lunch. Variety's Brian Steinberg has all the details.

The Times Center.
As a reporter, I meet with a lot of industry figures for breakfasts in which we have candid conversations about the state of the industry. Too often, though, those conversations sound wildly different from the discussions I watch take place on stages at conferences. Our goal is take the offstage candor and put it on the record before a live audience.
That might sound cliché—and some of our competitors do purport to subscribe to the same mission. But the difference is that we really mean it. And I think you know that too.
But don't simply take our word for it. Look at our record. Our promise since day one has been to deliver hard-hitting reporting and uncompromising analysis in a clear-eyed manner. We've done that here in this newsletter, in our Power Lines podcast, and now we'll do it in our inaugural summit.
I can assure you: this will not be an event you'll want to miss. Registration is now open, and our early bird rate is valid through the month of July. Reserve your spot before it’s too late.
We cannot wait to see you there.

Primetime Propaganda: Surprised? CBS News was the only one of the three major broadcast networks to air Donald Trump's primetime address on Thursday, handing the 2020 election-obsessed president 17 minutes of airtime to promote conspiracies about the contest he lost. "Evening News" anchor Tony Dokoupil kicked off the David Ellison-owned and Bari Weiss-led network's special 9pm coverage by…
