On Wednesday, The Washington Post’s chief executive and publisher, Will Lewis, and other members of the newspaper’s leadership team gathered in Davos, hobnobbing with elite global business and policy leaders attending the annual World Economic Forum. The Post’s presence in the luxurious Swiss enclave included its new event series, WP Studio, where newspaper leaders, including opinion editor Adam O’Neal and editorial director for WP Intelligence, Luiza Savage, entertained global leaders with moderated conversations in fields ranging from geopolitics to A.I., hosted at the Hard Rock Residences.
But stateside, The Post newsroom isn’t in such a celebratory mood. Two years into his tenure, Lewis has struggled to turn around sinking newsroom morale and declining readership, prompting restructuring measures to reduce head count. In 2025, The Post laid off staffers in the business section, followed by O’Neal’s cuts to the opinion section as he took a decidedly right turn in the paper’s editorial pages. Many longtime staffers have also left on their own accord, taking a voluntary buyout or pursuing new opportunities.
